April Fool, loads of Eagle Owls sat on buildings around here even one's that turn their heads....
Boo Boo's are pretty common about here too (North Essex). They seem to fancy perches on tall buildings where pigeons are a nuisance and especially yacht's in isolated creeks and even marinas, perhaps they supplement their diet of pigeons with gulls. They sit there swinging their cute little heads in the wind as noted by hobby69. With the easterly gales recently they must have had plenty of neck exercise.
Incidentally I have noted that a number of online and mail order companys are offering these creatures for sale. This raises two important issues, 1. Their welfare while in captivity and in transit and 2.The imbalance in natural habitat caused by their introduction.
I believe that the authorities should set up a committee to investigate the impact on the environment of the introduction of the species.
Nice try Andy.
I believe that the full ID should be Bubo bubo plasticus.
In view of the changes to the names of birds recently, could I put forward the following as a name for this bird :-
Aquila noctuam plasticus sinensis
(Sinensis being its probable country of origin)
Go with it Maylon.
