This discussion has been posted several times before. I believe we have agreed to post seaweeds, all colours, under plants.
In this species the long thongs are the reproductive part, arising from the buttons. The plant releases gametes from June until the winter when it starts to decay. Plants commonly live for 2-3 years and reproduce once before dying. (Marlin)
Sorry, I am fairly new to this so was unaware of previous discussions! In future I will put my brown seaweeds in the plant section. Thanks for the info.
