Red seaweed with broad, crumpled flat leaves with rounded edges. Slushy texture. Part of large deposit of red seaweeds on beach.
No interactions present.
Very difficult to tell from one photo and few description notes. Is there any vein(s)? What is the shape of the leaves when spread out; round / round with indentations? Any striations? A holdfast or stipe?
Nearest I could hazard so far is Mermaid's ear Meredithia microphylla
I realise it's not very clear. Everything was disintegrating. Was wondering whether it could be Drachiella heterocarpa.

well, it could be. I thought the leaf (at least I thought it was one leaf) was too large and thick.
Some scale would have helped.
And of course it might be bleached or darkened since death.
I can do no more.
...you have recorded texture in the text at the top. Please forgive me - slushy makes me think rhodophyllis even more :)
16/17 cm across.
