ID help required for a lower shore rockpool chiton?
No interactions present.
Looks unusual (& maybe hard to ID) there's a key to Irish chitons at http://www.ucd.ie/cobid/chitons/index.html, which also describes the species
That makes for interesting reading, I had a look at the key also but I havent quite been able to ID the above chiton as yet. With 13 or so to pick from it is a bit of a challenge- this is the first one Ive photographed, have seen a few before but I havent a clue about them.
Your photos show some spines on the fringe of the girdle. If the scale is cm, then using the Irish chiton key for features, and the associated description and distribution map, then this is my suggestion. But I wouldn't go so far as to definately ID it!
Thanks to all for the feedback. Yes this one is about 15mm. Chitons seem difficult and requiring of a lot of studying.
