Description:

Print close to bank of lake. I've seen an otter and a mink in the area, but no sign of badgers. I'm hoping these are otter prints.
The end of the walking stick is 3.5cm in diameter, co the print is best part of 5cm (2 inches) across. Too big for a mink, I think.

Badger?

Looking at photo 1, the size of the palm pad, how close the palm pad and toe pads are together (no gaps between where webbing would be), and the way the toe pads are 'lined up', it does look more like badger but I'm not sure. The palm pad doesn't look quite as 'kidney-shaped' as normal, but in very soft mud the shape could perhaps be distorted.

Damn!

As you can see, I wondered if it MIGHT be badger, but I was far from sure one way or the other.
I've not seen any other sign of badgers at this location, but I bet they're there. I was just hoping, I suppose.

Thanks for the id. Back to the drawing board.

Regards
