Early dog violet

Observed: 27th February 2013 By: anonymous spotter
Early Dog-violet
Description:

First saw this plant in flower at the beginning of February, but unable to get decent photo because of the light. My identification is based on the upper petals appearing narrow and erect and the absence of a notch on the spur.

Viola odorata?

I think I can see the rounded sepals of Viola odorata.

Viola

Looks like V. odorata to me too. The dark veins on the lower petal seem to be branched, would be unbranched in V. reichenbachiana. Really need a proper look at the leaves and spur, though.
