The eyes were kept fixed in relation to the front of the carapace and the palps moved in and out somewhat (Images 1 and 2).
Plate 12 1b of Roberts’ Field Guide shows a male Salticus scenicus with its chelicerae which are quite massive. Checking back quickly through my images of zebra-like spiders from last year, they all appear to be females, raising the possibility that a male Salticus has problems with mobility. Perhaps iSpot images accumulated to date could be brought to bear on this point.
