Fungal infection of Alexanders

Description:

On stems of dense population of umbellifer Smyrnium olusatrum (Alexanders). Many plants infected. Would this be species- or family-specific? Sample taken in hope of ID. Noted that it had started producing spores on 13/03/2013.

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

I didn't think anything affected this extremely invasive plant. It seems to be taking over many of the roadside verges and seawalls in North Essex.
