Description:

Edit- Beech Woodwart (Hypoxylon fragiforme)
I've no real suggestion for this one other than immature king Alfreds cakes? Any help gratefully received!

Identifications

Thanks Chris, looks like its as you suggest the beech woodwart. It is on a beech branch, well spotted!

I have to say its a great image with the fungus then beech leaves in the foreground and what appears to be a beech tree in the background. Subject and habitat all in one image, was it planned ?

Hi Chris, I'd like to say it was planned but more beginners luck I think! I'd took the pic so that the sun was on the what I now know as beech woodwart and the rest just fell into place! thanks for your help with the ID.
