Dolichopodidae

I tried out a shiny bronze late autumn specimen with the Swedish key, and had to be all but airlifted out after getting thoroughly bogged down. It seemed as if I'd got quite far, only to founder near the end at 'antennal stylus' (some sort of groove?), but I'd almost certainly gone astray once or twice already.

This one less problematic though because of its size, markings and recent postings with notes

There is a UK key here:

There is a UK key here: http://www.royensoc.co.uk/sites/default/files/Vol09_Part05.pdf though it helps a lot to know your destination before setting off in my limited experience!

key

yes, thanks, I've got that one now, and have also come to love the Grichanov key. Choking clouds of Dolichopus & Argyra make the family less appealing though, apart from a few genus, at least until autumn when they all become interesting again
