Large woodlouse see second picture for scale found in packet of mealworms.
No interactions present.
Thanks for ID Adrian. Interesting how wrong I could be.... Sorry no I don't have underneath picture. (it wasn't me who found it) I didn't know that cockroaches looked like this (used to German Cockroach type), but have since seen some on the internet.
Now I have managed some (poor) underside pictures. Does this help with the ID?
Madagascar hissing cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa)
Hi, thanks for the photos. As I understand it there is a insect called a hissing cockroach that people keep as pets and I’ll take a guess that’s what you’ve found.
Adult cockroaches usually have wing buds even if they don’t have full wings. But the nymphs (even the German cockroach nymphs) don’t and they do look a lot like the creature in your photo, albeit a lot smaller.
Be interesting to know where the mealworms were grown/packaged, if it was in the UK your sighting would probably be of interest to people who monitor pests & invasive species, or (if I'm right on the ID)they might be just growing hissing cockroaches for the pet trade along with the mealworms.
Thanks it certainly looks quite like that. Will ask about the mealworms....
