Description:

Sorry for the distant, backlit, photo but is that a Yellowhammer on the right? (With Chaffinch below, left). I've never seen one here before.

Siskin

Yes, lots of those about. I thought (hoped) it might be a female Yellowhammer, oh well!
(Have since read that a Yellowhammer is slightly larger that a Chaffinch.)

Size

Yellowhammers are quite big things, a bit bigger than a Chaffinch, so the small size of this bird makes it a Siskin. Then, the pointed bill is that of a finch, rather than a bunting.

We are in to Siskin time of year, now. They often peak on garden feeders in March and April. They've just turned up in my garden, this week.
