Can you remember if the stem had small a ring low down usually broken of so would only be traces left
As far as I can remember this was the case, definately no obvious ring left like in A. citrina or others - that was one of the ID points I noted - it is stated as very rare in the Roger Phillips book and extremely poisonous, so I didn't touch it!
Even touching deathcaps is not a problem, the toxins are not absorbed through the skin just wash your hands before eating, smoking or biting your nails lol.
