Beautiful large white owl observed during day in Cairngorm mountains. I think it is rare to see snowy owls in Scotland?
No interactions present.
Yes, it is a very lucky sighting indeed, as they only occur very irregularly in Scotland, these days. Lucky you!
The only one I have seen over here was on the Lincolnshire coast, a number of years ago...a well-twitched individual.

Hi Lucy. Your observation of this amazing bird was the reason for me signing up to this site so thanks for that! :-)
Welcome to iSpot, Matt.
So they are there!
This is a beautiful adult male - no sign of any dark markings.
I was lucky enough to work on Fetlar for the RSPB back in the 1980s when there was an adult female and two of her daughters hanging around Fetlar and Unst. It was one of my jobs to meet the ferry in the morning and take people up to find the snowy owls before the last ferry in the afternoon - I never failed but I did come close on occasions! These are the only snowy owls I've seen in the wild and I've always wanted to see a male outside of bird collections.
These are far and away my favourite birds. Thanks for the posting.

Thanks for your info Graham about the Snowy Owls on Shetland - wow what a job.
And thanks to Jonathan to the link for the BBC report.
I also have been inspired by my sighting of the snowy owl and by iSpot to do more bird watching. I have joined the RSPB and I am helping out with my local group.
