I am sorry but I have no idea what this is - can anyone help with a suggestion - I am not expecting a species ID!

What a superb insect! I managed to find a very similar looking fly via a Google search:
which is labelled "Diptera: Nothybidae: Nothybus sp.". I'm afraid I don't know for certain if that is what it is, or how many species there might be that look like this (there are nine species in genus Nothybus).
Stephen Marshall's excellent book on the world's flies has this to say about family Nothybidae:
"The small family Nothybidae is the only family of flies entirely restricted to the Oriental region ... most occur in the wet rainforests of Indonesia ... nothing is known about the biology of this group".
You could try adding the photo to the Diptera.info site for further opinions:
