Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!
Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
No interactions present.
I do agree with DMH that we need more information on these observations. If you are happy with only a few getting id'd then fine but with more photos or at least more descriptions we could help more.
In this case the robust stature and growth habit and colour convinces me that M haematopus is correct.
Mycena is a genus I try and avoid. Count on my fingers the number I would be confident IDing and for me this could easily be one of the 300+ I dont have much info on unless I see that milk.
All given ID's are subject to error/ommissions. Please seek independent verification before acting on ANY advice given. BE SAFE =)
I am doing a talk on those species of Mycena that can be identified in the field on Saturday ;)
Mal I WISH I could be there to benefit from your experience any notes or link would be most apprieciated. Mycenas dont really excite the food lover in me but one must be balanced ;-D
As I just started to photo Fungi I will take more photo's details as I can in future....
If you are after positive confident ID's we need all the helpful info you can provide. I have to assume in this case that you noticed the red milk and this helped to narrow it down. even if you didnt get photo of it a mention of it on the post would insire more people to agree with you :-)
Two of the best places for Mycena are
for those species that can often be identified in the field and
for a much more in depth study.
"As I just started to photo Fungi I will take more photo's details as I can in future...."
That's what we like to hear
If I had a penny for everytime I commented 'a photo of the underside would be nice' .....
Thanks for the links Mal, I had the Mycenas of Norway you gave a link to some time ago but not the other. How I would love to come to your talk!
