Bazz not sure why there is rarely a photo showing the pore bearing surface (gills, veins, spines, pores) but it is vital for at least 80% of all the fungi I know off. There is no danger from touching ANY fungi(assuming you dont have a compulsive nail biteing habit) than say taking the bins out. Additionally any mature fungi like this has already released millions of spores and can continue to do so for several days after being picked. SO Bl@~dy pick it, flip it and click it. No offence and Im guilty of not getting all the info for reliable ID more often than I like to admit. But this info is VITAL if ispot records are ever to be included in an 'official' records :-)

I was having the same thought and he's right I have a suppressed immune system due to medication I have to take and I always keep my hands away from my mouth when out but carry a tiny bottle of anti-bacterial gel with me and if I think its a poisonous or dirty one (on cow poo, animal horn ect) I then give my hands a quick wipe.I look forward to future photo's of gills and stems.I have done this for a few years now and never been ill picking stuff but I don't eat any of the fungi
