Pale grey cap had slight mauve hue(approx 8cm across) and white gills.

You are fairly safe eating a small amount(half a single fruitbody) of any fan shaped fungi growing from wood with a white spore print colour. Important DONT eat any that dont meet these 3 criteria 1.Fan shape, 2.Growing from wood 3. White spores. that way the worst you will suffer from is poor, bland tastless and slimy.
