Fox track in snow?

Observed: 7th February 2009 By: orchid_borchid_b’s reputation in Mammalsorchid_b’s reputation in Mammals

This is not from the recent snow but looking for tracks then reminded me I had never confirmed this one fully.
I almost never get dogs in the garden, and to be a dog, this would have had to have wandered in at night on its own, which I thought unlikely as there are virtually no free-running dogs in the village. I also think it is narrow?

Fox print

Yes, this is a fox print. Foxes prints are narrower than dogs and you can draw an imaginary diagonal cross between the side paws and the tops one (you can see the white lines between the paws on the photo).
A nice find in the snow!
