Often see this green colouring in old Silver Birch branches. Anyone know what causes it?

The coloured wood

Has been used in marquetry, I think. I've never been lucky enough to see the fruiting bodies, but you can see some linked observations, in at least some cases luck and skill have captured the very pretty cups.
