Looks very dark, but I am sure you will have considered the larger, rarer P. nigra. Need to see the facial markings to be certain, I suppose.

You probably already have this Conopidae Genera key - Northwest Europe, certainly opens a few doors, metaphorically, of course.

Yes...a useful key.

One of my favourite families of flies...only a few weeks until the Myopa start to appear on Sallow.

Useful...but don't expect the key to help from a photo...they are bad enough with a specimen!
