Description:

Growing on the underside of a plastic barrel used as a racing mark in Strangford Lough. Common mussel below it shows scale.

Thanks, yes that sounds right - just not used to seeing them isolated and able to grow unrestricted.

you also....

...have a keel worm and what looks potentially like a tapes clam as well in the picture. But definitely the byssal threads seems to be what you want to know about.
