My book says square shoulders and almost rectangular first segment of the thorax and has a nice picture of your bug - so spot on!
This is a forest bug, the other, similar species is the Parent Bug (Elasmucha grisea), but the plain appearance and the pale spot on the tip of the scutellum all point to forest bug. Refer this observation -
Good to have taken both the upper and lower sides of the insect. Often this can help with identification.
