Lesser burdock (Arctium minus)
Description:

This is a tricky genus I know, but I think this is Lesser burdock, found by the side of a small road just behind some coastal dunes/rough grassland in south Wales. The plant was around 4 fert high with very red stems and very purplish spiny bracts on the flower bud. It fits well with the description here: http://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/lesser-burdock and on the same suite it says Greater burdock never has purple tinged spiny bracts.
