Insect - Instar siblings on Woundwort Leaf, 27 Aug 2012
Description:

After looking at Ashley Wood's illustrations of Shieldbugs on his website, I believe these to be Woundwort Shieldbug Instars. The larger of the two
has a sort of Yin Yang design on its wingcases,
while the smaller one looks like an ornament
designed by Rene Lalique, milk glass and burnished copper with jewels along the sides.

Woundwort Shieldbugs

Hi Hedera, I would say the one on the right is an adult or a very near adult Woundwort Shieldbug. The other one is probably a 5th instar Woundwort Shieldbug.

As an aside when you enter an ID you should also add a scientific name. Just type in "Woundwort Shieldbug" and then press "get recommended" for the Latin name. It is this name that fully identifies your sighting and links it to others on iSpot.
