A female. How do I know

A female. How do I know (apart from the grey stripes on the breast)? Because only the females hunt woodpigeons. It is the males that hunt the eponymous sparrows and other smaller birds, hence the size difference between them - so pairs don't compete for prey. Males might go for a Collared Dove, just.
