Earlier this year I started to try to record all the wildlife seen within the boundaries of a sailing club in the Scottish Borders of which I have been a member for a number of years.
Following a suggestion from The Wildlife Information Centre (TWIC), the local records centre for Midlothian and Borders, I discovered iSpot. I never cease to be amazed by the site, the photographs and, especially, the people. Everyone has been unfailingly helpful and courteous to a "newbie" on the site and little more than a beginner as far as identifying what he sees around him is concerned. I have received so much help with identifying specimens and, more importantly, help in how to identify things.
As a result of all this help I've managed to identify almost 250 species in the club grounds and am slowly alerting more and more members to what is there. Roll on next season when I look foward to doubling this total and to getting more folk involved.
Very many thanks to all those who have given so much help and best wishes for the New Year.
