red crested pochard

This is one of several wildfowl that could occur wild in the UK but are generally assumed to be domesticated when seen in parks. The species breeds in southern France.

Red crested pochard

Here in Yorkshire we see so few red crested pochards in the wild you have to ask if they are not wild birds rather than escapes. They will hybridise with common pochard, thankfully though the hybrids are not fertile so can not breed and pass on the hybrid genes.
