Rings in bark of alder buckthorn

Observed: 12th December 2012 By: barry.henwood
    rings in alder buckthorn bark
Description:

rings like this were abundant on alder buckthorn. The bark had been removed but the rings were not complete - limited to 80-90% of the circumference. I do not consider there is any chance that they are an artefact caused by humans.

Ring damage ID

I suspect this was caused by grey squirrels, Sciurus carolinensis.
