Description:

In new planting of aquatic plants in semi-formal pond - I thought that it might have been intended to have been of native(ish) plants, but perhaps not.
This one looks a bit aroidish, but I don't recognise it.

I sort of agree.

Now my memory has been jogged I've find that I've got a photograph of Pontederia cordata from a rural(ish) pond. (I thought that that site was a deliberate introduction.)

There isn't a good view of the flowers in the photographs of this plant at Ness, and they're mostly spent anyway, but the flowers don't see to match Pontederia cordata - they are paler and less zygomorphic, with broader tepals. On the other hand, Pontederia cordata is the only species likely to be found, and there are white, light blue and pink colour variants. I think I'll have to see if I can catch it in full flower next year.

Thanks for the pointer.
