Velvet shank

Large cluster found growing on cut end of an old stump in woods on the Sandringham estate. Cap 4.5cm, flat, orange brown when wet, and dark brown when dry, slimy to touch. Stipe 0.4cm in diameter, cylindrical, and 5cm long. Gills cream, edges turn black as dried. Gills distant and different lengths.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
