Location and a name

I think the "Oregon" on the map is a settlement not the state of the same the name - the location seems to be in Illinois.
The caterpillar could well be Malacosoma americanum (Eastern Tent Caterpillar Moth) - lots of pictures here:

Yes, you are right on both accounts. It is Illinois and I think that you are correct that i is the "Malacosoma americanum" . Thank very much, I had heard about iSpot on a BBC Radio 4 (Pod Cast) a big improvement over Facebook.
