I'll try and get a better picture tomorrow - what am I looking for in terms of identifying features ?

Also, does the fact it is growing on treated timber have any bearing on the ID ?

Treated timber makes

Treated timber makes Gloeophyllum even more likely. As the name implies (rather badly as they are not gills) the pores should be maze like. look at the specimen posted by Littorella.
