There are 3 subspecies in Britain. ssp. galeobdolon is rare in Britain (but its principle locality is north Lincolnshire). ssp. montanum is the common native form, which is part of the spring-flowering woodland flora, and has leaves which are scarcely or not variegated. ssp. argentatum is evergreen, with heavily variegated leaves, and has a more diverse habitat range - I suspect that natural habitat is woodland edges.

The flowering shoots of ssp. argentatum are less variegated than the basal leaves, so I don't think I can call this one on the basis of the photograph.
ssp. argentatum forms a dense, often extensive, ground cover, whilst ssp. montanum forms looser colonies.
