Hi Mike...I tend to shy away from Diptera so have little experience in this area.

I do believe yours is Tachydromia sp. I've got a similar type running the vegplot of my garden. Used this key and i'm still unsure what species i've got...perhaps it can be of use to you?

Your mention of garden rang a bell, checking my archived notes, I have s similar species down too, around my compost bins in the main. Thanks for the keys.
