Description:

A pair of small dark coloured ducks were seen in harbour/bay in Poole. Smaller than the nearby Wigeon. Both constantly diving for food similar to grebes. Also seen displaying to each other by taking it in turn to lift beak skywards. One appeared to have a light patch on throat/breast area. Although seen at some distance the eyes seemed bronze-yellow in colour.

Timing

Sorry Mydaea, your comment wasn't showing when I entered my ID; however it's nice to know my suspicions appear to be confirmed.

Thanks for the ID.

Sorry about the photo quality, they were pretty distant.

Distant

I thought they might be, nothing you can do about that.
