Surrounding a small loch on Arthur's Seat, deposited in the grass or on boulders, within a metre of the pond's edge I have observed several mysterious globs, from 4-7 cm across, of gelatinous goo over the last 5 weeks. Some are beige globules, some are more intestinal or brain-like in structure, some have a small amount of charcoal colored caviar-looking stuff on top or beside (see photo). It does not decompose quickly, but does change, becoming more transparent, less coagulated, over weeks, and sometimes appears to have small white strands within the jelly. I have observed one glob on half of a frog, intestines pulled out (see photo) and one very bloated dead frog with a heap of the goo on its back (see photo). Otherwise all the little heaps have been alone. On 26/11 I observed what appear to be two new deposits of the "brain" structure globs on the grass.
