Berries

I saw some in Staffs the other day but there seems to be absolutely no berries about anywhere.

Berries

There are Hawthorn berries all over the place round here, but the Waxwings are doing their normal thing and picking off the ornamental Rowans first. Once they have finished around the industrial estates and such like, they will probably start to appear elsewhere on Hawthorns.

None Left

We have almost no hawthorn left in SW London. Regularly surveying several sites near me for the BTO Winter Thrush Survey there has been a noticeable increase in blackbird numbers (but nothing else of note so far) over the past couple of months and they have been particularly interested in the hawthorn. Nearly half of all birds seen where feeding on this.
