If it is

If it is a puffball, which I'm pretty sure it is, it won't have any gills. Though if it does have gills, it definitely isn't a puffball! With that long stem, it might be pestle puffball.

puffball - google for pictures. A fungus that has spores inside the 'fruiting body', rather than on gills underneath a cap. The spores get puffed out when the fungus gets squashed by an animal or by rain/wind.
