Description:

I first thought that this was a Common Plant Bug (ignore my initial ID underneath - I put the wrong name down) but now I'm thinking that the legs are the wrong colour. Any ideas?

Ground Bug

I think this is a Ground Bug (Lygaeidae), possibly Scolopostethus affinis or Scolopostethus thomsoni. It is difficult to see the ID features in this photo. (I did notice that the images on British Bugs have dark front femurs for S. thomsoni, but reddish ones (like your photo) on most S. affinis though it isn't mentioned as an ID feature.)

I'm sorry that the photo

I'm sorry that the photo isn't clearer but I'm grateful, as always, for your comments.

Dr Bug mentioned that affinis & thomsoni are associated with nettles and there was a nettle patch near to where I took the photo (we leave patches of them for various caterpillars to feed on).
