Description:

Do they not know winter is on its way? These two were very much into their pair bonding.
Could not get close enough (and light too poor to use a low noise ISO setting) to see any detail on the ring.

I was there today

Just got back from a bite of grub after a session at WWT this afternoon. As is customary, i got strait on to the latest i-spot observations and here are the lovely pair of Egyptians i saw a few hours ago! I was taken with the pale head of one of them. Thanks for posting! :)

Autumn Courtship

Seems to be a behaviour pattern of several waterfowl. They pair up and over-winter together before mating in the Spring.
I'm not sure if this species does it, but it's quite possible.

Bonding

I think you are probably right. Plus I notice (and I have not checked any references for this so it is purely observational) you almost never seen a single Egyptian so I assume they must have a very strong, all year, pair bond. In which case you would expect to see bonding behaviour regularly throughout the year.
