Description:

Found just inches away from the Pleurotus I posted yesterday in the heart of a rotting stump. Shaggy Scalycap initially looked a possibility, but I wasn't sure because the stem is smooth above where the ring once was, so I also considered Pholiota adiposa (based on description in my brand new copy of Phillips!)

Identifications

Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.
