Dubious morels

Two morels growing from outside the base of a garden wall, presumably attached to organic material via a crack. Dark brown pitted cap, brown spores seen fallen onto the creamy stem.


Caution: Do NOT use iSpot to identify fungi to eat!

Some fungi are very poisonous so a mistaken ID could have serious consequences.

Morchella elata

I used to do landscaping in Bishopstoke (about 17 years ago) and found loads of these fungi. They seemed to be present where chipped bark mulch had been used on the flower beds. They are edible but it can be difficult to get out all the dirt fro inside the crenulations!
