Chetostoma curvinerve

Once regarded as very rare, it appears to be increasing, both in numbers and in range. Lovely insect.

The theory regarding sawfly galls if true would be way outside the usual life history habits of tephritids, and so should be treated with caution. The spines are probably for display but no one is sure. Two other species of this genus have been reared from honeysuckle (Lonicera) fruits but the life history of curinerve is unknown (paraphrased from some feedback by David Clements).
