Navigation

Thanks for correcting the inconsistency between the Previous/Next and the L/R order. That was annoying!

However, the navigation seems to have been messed up in the process. When I made an ID just now, I lost the previous/next link, and had to use the back button until an unmodified post appeared. I don't think that is how it should be. It is certainly clumsy.

And when I got as far as http://ispot.org.uk/node/30102, I lost the next/previous completely even though I had done nothing with it, and had to use the browser back button.

I am using Opera.

Loosing forward / back buttons

If I select observations for a group I can scroll through each observation using the forward / back buttons.

However, if I add a Revision to an Observation the forward / back buttons vanish - I can only get them back by going back to the home page and starting again by selecting a group.

I am glad it is not just me,

I am glad it is not just me, Matt! I have also found adding a couple of IDs since I first posted, that the results are not consistent - sometimes the buttons remain, sometimes not; sometimes you get a link to 'related observations', sometimes none at all!

Should be fixed now

Thanks, for pointing out the issues you've been having. Hopefully now it should be fixed. It is quite complicated behind the scenes so if you spot anywhere it still isn't working properly please let us know.

Thanks, Richard. There are

Thanks, Richard. There are still some bugs, but I am finding it difficult to define them as they appear inconsistently.

E.g. I have just scrolled through the invertebrate posts. When not logged in, the damselfly at 31633 appeared with no links. When I logged and repeated the exercise seconds later it had them!

Sometimes if scrolling through the set with 'next', suddenly a page appears without any links. Also, sometimes the refreshed page loses its links if you contribute. Is it worth spending time on? Perhaps not a priority - it is more an irritation than a fatal flaw.

More navigation queries

As the number of Observations being added speeds up as people are getting out more, I'm finding its getting harder to make sure I have scanned all the "new" images since my last visit - if i am working at home thats 2 or 3 times a day usualy.

I can look at the "Latest Observations" for selected groups and scroll through them using the "more" button, but the number of Observations that can be seen doing this appears to be limited to "5 clicks" of the button, presumeably something to do with a limit set on the server - after this the "more" button greys out and stops working.

Only if I go to "Observations / Browse Observations" can I get past this limit and see if there is anything else "new" before I get to an Observation I have already seen - this morning there was a nice record of an uncommon Tachinid fly in the "gap", if I had just used the "more" keys I would not have found this.

Could we extend the buffer for the "Latest Observations" or tag observations as "New since your last visit" in some way?
