I was interested in the metal tags attached to this tree. I noticed a number of trees around connaught waters in Essex had these tags but I'm not sure what they are for. I assume that some organisation like the woodland trust put them on but they were too high for me to read.

Inventory tags

It is likely these will be individual tree tags which give each tree a number/id which will then be part of a manager's inventory of trees - this usually records the condition of the tree in terms of management of its health/arboriculture. Such management is usually health & safety related and has devloped as a consequence of claims being made against owners when trees have fallen on things/people......Inventories can be used for biodiversity recording, but tree management may be more common.
