Description:

Several rushes are present at Brereton Heath, including Juncus articulatus, Juncus effusus and Juncus inflexus. This is a 4th, growing in woodland.
I've added a 3rd photograph, showing another nearby, more upright, clump.

Interesting

There has been a record of Juncus anthelatus from a few metres west of this site (just in the next hectad) and this has a more diffuse inflorescence than J. tenius. Worth looking at the fruits.

Juncus anthelatus

There's very little in the way of photographs of Juncus anthelatus on the web, but what I have found doesn't look like the above plant.

Some more information on the species can be found at http://www.arthurhaines.com/botanical_notes/BotNotes_N6.pdf

I did see stuff in the next tetrad west that I thought might have been Juncus tenuis, but I also thought it had been mown over, so I gave it a pass in case any atypical appearance due to this misled me.
