The throat of a palmate newt should be a translucent pink...

Palmate newt

yes, without spots under the neck if it is a Palmate. A male would have had a little thread at the end of the tail, and back feet obviously webbed, if he was in breeding condition. Females would be without the webbing and the thread at the end of the tail, but would still have the pale pink, spotless throat.
