identifying herb robert when not flowering

Until you have your eye in Geranium robertianum foliage can be confused with the foliage of a number of other plants (e.g. some umbellifers); it can even look rather fern-like.

A useful technique for identifying it is to brush your hand against the foliage, and then sniff your hand - the foliage of Geranium robertianum has a characteristic rank smell.

Thanks for this additional information. Did you mean 'G. rotundifolium' or 'G. robertianum' in your final comment?
I think that I was unaware that G. robertianum foliage is sometimes red - now I know better!
