Description:

A bush about 10 ft in height and breadth. Clusters of richly black berries with a shiny surface, about 1cm in diameter.

Don't eat the berries unless you want to know what the species name 'cathartica' means! Even if you do - don't.

It means the same as in the full vernacular name ...

... which is purging buckthorn.

Because of recent changes in classification shouldn't you be called 'Malvaman'?

I had started using the handle elsewhere ...

... before the professionals grasped the nettle and sank Lavatera (and Althaea section Hirsutae) into Malva.

But in my opinion Lavatera is a perfectly good vernacular name for the plants in Malva section Olbia and Malva section Lavatera.
